Understanding the treatment
What Is
PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. A centrifuge separates the sample so that a platelet-rich portion can be used for injections into the scalp. Platelets contain signalling proteins involved in the body’s repair processes.
For some people with pattern hair loss, PRP may improve hair density or reduce shedding. Results vary, and research protocols differ, so an individual assessment matters. It is generally considered for thinning areas with existing follicles, rather than as a way to replace a transplant or restore hair where follicles have been destroyed.
Is it right for you?
Start with
your concern
—not a
treatment
package.
Your consultation explores what is bothering you, whether this treatment fits your needs, and when another option may be more appropriate.
THIS MAY BE WORTH EXPLORING IF
Ask about PRP if:
Your parting looks wider or your crown seems less full than before.
You have diagnosed pattern hair loss with hair still present in the thinning areas.
You want to explore an option that does not involve a hair transplant.
You would like to discuss extra support alongside a prescribed hair-loss plan.
You can attend repeat visits and judge progress over several months.
What may improve
Benefits connected
to your goals.
Potential improvement in density.
Some patients with pattern hair loss develop fuller-looking coverage after a treatment course.
Possible reduction in shedding.
A response may first be noticed as less hair fall, although this is not assured.
Prepared from your own blood.
PRP uses your platelets, while still requiring sterile preparation and appropriate medical screening.
No donor harvesting.
Scalp injections avoid the donor incisions and graft recovery involved in transplantation.
Personal consultation
Pricing follows
the plan—not
the other way
around.
Your quote should explain the cost per session, the proposed initial course, and any review or maintenance charges. The number of appointments depends on your diagnosis, the protocol, and your response.
At consultation, ask what would count as meaningful progress and when the plan would be reconsidered. Clear expectations help you judge value over time.

Frequently asked questions
No. Most clinical research concerns pattern hair loss, and responses are inconsistent. Temporary shedding, inflammatory disease, and scarring conditions may require different treatment; an examination should establish the cause first.
A common starting approach is three monthly sessions, but schedules vary. Maintenance may be considered every three to six months if you respond; the clinician should explain your proposed course and reassessment point before you commit.
You may feel the blood draw and repeated scalp pinpricks. Tenderness afterwards is possible; discuss comfort options and tell the clinician about needle anxiety or a history of fainting.
If PRP helps, a change in shedding may come before visible fullness. Progress is judged over months using comparable photographs and scalp findings, rather than day-to-day hair counts or a promised growth date.
It is unlikely to restore substantial coverage in a long-standing bald area and cannot replace destroyed follicles. A transplant may be worth discussing if you have suitable donor hair and a stable diagnosis.
